Detailed Narrative Description of Project:

Water and Sanitation is a complex subject in the development matrix as it directly is related to behavior, psychology, culture and education of the community people. SKS has been implementing this program in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila with the financial support from HYSAWA FUND to promote the concept of safe water use and hygienic sanitation through raising awareness on Safe water, environmental sanitation and personal hygiene and installation of water supply and sanitation materials.

Objectives of the Project:

1. To achieve the Millennium development Goals (MDGs) relating to water and sanitation; and makes the significant contribution to the MDGs relating to under-five child mortality and gender disparities in primary school
2. To improve standards of hygiene practices and behavior on a sustainable basis, whilst ensuring adequate sanitation and safe water supply in un-served and underserved areas, particularly for the poorest by 2015, within a program area covering 0.50 million people, in the line with GOB sanitation and water supply targets.

Expected Result:

1. Improved hygiene behavior adopted and practiced habitually by, whole communities including schools and markets, in program areas.
2. Whole communities have access to and use sustainable technologies for environmental sanitation (excreta disposal, solid and liquid waste management) in program area including school and markets.
3. Whole communities have year round access to adequate quantities of safe water for drinking, food, and hygiene practices in program areas.

Activities of the Project:

HHs survey, CAP preparation through PRA method. HHs visit, Organize and conduct court yard meeting, Organize sessions and visit tea stall/grocery shop at ward level, Organize and conduct Group meeting, Interaction with Poor, Poorest and Marginalize group, Assistance to Union Parishad for 100% sanitation coverage, Developed Poster, Leaflet and sticker on sanitation, hygiene practice, family planning and reproductive health, Trained UP, UWC and WWC member about WatSan responsibility and different seminar, workshop and orientation on health related issue at district, upazila and union level and organize watsan fair at district, upazila and union level and organize rally, road show and pot & Gono-natok show.
