Basic Literacy Project (BLP)

Under a partnership arrangement with The Bureau of Non-formal Education of Primary and Mass Education Ministry, SKS has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing this project in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila under Thakurgaon district. As per the arrangement, SKS has been offering life skill based literacy to 18,000 adolescence and adult learners facilitated by 600 trained teachers through 300 adult learning centers.

Objectives of the project :

  • To provide Basic Literacy and Life Skills to 18000 illiterate adolescents and adults of 15-45 age group.
  • To contribute in eradication of illiteracy from the country as well as achieving global and national EFA goals as envisaged in NPA-II and the Sixth Five Year Plan.
  • To contribute in implementation of the National NFE Policy-2006 and the National Education Policy-2010.
  • To strengthen the capacity of BNFE and other agencies involved in Non-Formal Education,
  • To promote GO-NGO and community collaboration in NFE.

Impacts / Outputs of the Proposed Program:

  • Under the Basic Literacy Course, the project will cover 18000 illiterate adolescents and adults of 11- 45 age group
  • The project will prepare 4.5 million learners enable to gather further education and skill training in order to foster a better life style and to develop them as enlightened and productive citizens involved in lifelong learning.
  • Special efforts will be given for enrolment of the people living in remote locations, marginalized people, ethnic groups, people living in slums and hard core poor.
  • It will contribute in eradication of illiteracy from the country as well as achieving global and national EFA goals as envisaged in NPA-II and the Sixth Five Year Plan.
  • It will contribute in implementation of the National NFE Policy-2006 and the National Education Policy-2010.
  • The project will strengthen the capacity of BNFE and other agencies involved in Non-

  • It will contribute to promote GO-NGO and community collaboration in NFE.
  • It will develop primers in the mother tongue(s) of the ethnic groups for the learners of 3 hill districts.

Project Locations: 21 Union and 01 Pawrashova of  Thakurgaon Sadar upazila under Thakurgaon District.

No. of Centers: 300

Project Participants: 9000 Female and 9000 Male participants.

Project duration: March 2018 to December 2019.
